The firm Ken Herd and Associates was created in 1996 but came about after the division of the Potts Point firm Harris Herd and Miller.
The building was built in 1929, having been designed in the 1920’s by the architect, Claud Hamilton. From 1919 through to 1940, as well as this building, “Versailles,” Hamilton designed a number of prominent buildings in Darlinghurst, Elizabeth Bay and Kings Cross, for example, Savoy 1919, Regents Court 1926, Byron Hall 1928 and Springfield Inn which became the Kookaburra Café of some fame and repute which is now simply the corner of Springfield and Darlinghurst Road.
This building “Versailles” represents an outstanding example of the heritage of the Darlinghurst/Kings Cross area. It is one of approximately 16 buildings in the area designed by Claud Hamilton.
The firm has, since 1996 been located at its present location as shown to the left.
